Black Quail, a leather goods brand, was founded by Pakhlavon Turdiev in 2013. The logo goes back to his childhood memories of an Uzbek teahouse with a quail singing in the background. That sound became his personal symbol of comfort and of the Uzbek people. So the quail appeared as a sign of memory and tradition, while the word Black reflected the founder’s rebellious streak and his urge to stand out.
Over time the brand grew. The range expanded, and the segment and audience changed. The visual language had to change with them, moving from emotional and rebellious to more restrained and refined.
The renewed Black Quail is minimal with an Eastern character. The article “The” was dropped from the name for a more concise read. The black quail itself became more stately, more disciplined and more restrained, keeping its symbolism while gaining status. A pattern of interlocking geometric elements forms an eight-pointed star, a traditional motif in Uzbek ornament, linking the brand’s contemporary aesthetic to the cultural code of the region.
