An identity inspired by the play of light and shadow, capturing the spirit of Spain
Quadro, a classic banquet restaurant in Tashkent, decided to change its concept and become a place with the atmosphere of a “Spanish home”: warm, cozy and welcoming. Our task was to create an identity that kept the comfort of the old restaurant while helping it become a new, modern destination.
We had to bring together Spanish spirit and Tashkent hospitality, conveying the warmth, ease and character of a “Spanish home” while staying true to local culture. The project was more than a rebrand. It showed how a place can renew itself without rewriting its history from scratch, and become a new home for Tashkent’s food culture.
Spain and Uzbekistan lie thousands of kilometers apart, yet share a strikingly similar attitude to life. In both, people gather around the table to share a meal, warmth and joy. Both live under a bright, all-pervading sun. The sun became the starting point for our concept, with a twist.
Instead of depicting the sun itself, we focused on the shadows it casts. Think how good it feels to find shade on a hot day, whether in a Spanish courtyard or under an Uzbek plane tree. Shadows hold fond memories of the past. They go with the unhurried mood of hot weather, and they stand for calm.
These shadows became the basis of the restaurant’s graphic language. Every line and shape in the identity carries the play of light and shadow: sunlit patterns falling on walls, interior details, cutlery. Each element seems to cast its own shadow, creating a style that is recognizable and always changing.
Shadows appear throughout the identity: they are its main device. The logo, for instance, has no letters as such. You cannot see them directly, only the shadows they cast.
The illustrations imitate the shadows of objects connected with the restaurant. There can be endless variations, and they can change from season to season, so the identity becomes an extension of the restaurant’s atmosphere.
The brand palette combines warm sand and terracotta tones with deep dark accents. It heightens the sense of warmth and comfort, while also recalling the hot climates of Spain and Uzbekistan and the coolness of shade.
The Quadro identity is vivid, lively and highly adaptable. It works across every touchpoint, from menus and packaging to social media and interiors. Every detail reflects the character of a restaurant where Spanish culture meets Uzbek hospitality. It is a style that brings guests back again and again to become part of the story. At Quadro, design does more than decorate: it fills life with flavor and warmth.
